Kelly Price comes to Dallas

Kelly Price comes to Dallas

Kelly Price performed her single “Healing” at The Potter House Church during the 11:30am service. Before Price began to sing, she talked about how the secular world does not sees the Christian world in a positive light. In addition, it is the church’s responsibility to act as if they are living a better life than the world. The audience sat in aw of silence as she belted out the lyrics with sincerity and deep vocals. “Healing” is a song that has an R & B sounds with an old gospel message. At the end of her performance, the audience gave her a standing ovation.

“This Is Who I Am”, is her first gospel album that has been # 1 on the Billboard
Gospel Album charts for the past two weeks. Price has also written a book called Inscriptions, as well.

"The Return" of Ruben Studdard

CD Title: The Return is to be release on September 26, 2006
Artist: Ruben Studdard www.rubenstuddard.com
Record Label: J Records www.jrecords.com

Studdard performed in Dallas at the Wal-Mart National Convention with Gladys Knight, his back up singer said. August 27, he did not perform at Arlington’s Club Crystals but gave autograph photos to his female fans. On his upcoming The Return album, the "velvet-teddy-bear" produced the track "If Only For One Night”, a remake of the Brenda Russell song popularized by Luther Vandross. According to his website he also co-wrote, "I'm Not Happy," and "To Tha Crib."

Studdard performed on Fred Hammond’s upcoming album. Information of the upcoming album is not available.

The "Change Me" single, produced by The Underdogs, is in high rotation on local radio stations. "Change Me", is reminds me of "Sorry 2004" with same slow beats and sad lyrics. It, also, makes me wonder why would anybody want change the big-teddy-bear Studdard. After meeting Studdard at Crystal’s, he seems to be such a quiet and sweet teddy bear.

His album named The Return, because the American Idol winner wants his fans that he is returning to R&B from his gospel CD.

I look forward to hearing the rest of the songs on his album. I give the single * * * stars out of * * * * *.

Paris is coming to Your Town.

Title: Self-Titled Debut Album Paris releases on August 22, 2006

Artist: Paris Hilton, ParisHiltonRecord.com

Record Label and URL: Warner Bros.com/WEA

Review Author: Paris Hilton has appeared in the movies Bottom’s up, House of Wax and the infamous TV series The Simple Life. In 2005, she was an executive producer and star of National Lampoon’s Pledge This. Now, she is adding singer and writer to her resume.

Review Contents
I finally gave notice to track five, Jealousy, because of the lyrical content. Hilton never mentions Nicole Richie’s name but takes a punch at her.

Lyrics go like this, “Now, I am like the devil… I thought you were my best friend… was the shoulder that I could lean on. How could the good between turn so bad? Jealous, is such an evil thing."
I did not consider Hilton was the devil in the break up, until now.

Hilton sings Nothing in This World, which hints how she plans to seduce men by telling them she "Can do what she can do, but so much better… nothing in this world can stop us… I am gonna make you feel alright.”
Even tho, Hilton did not write this song, is this song a self-description of her playboy-self-centered ways?

Screwed, written by Kara DioGuardi and Greg Well, Hilton belts how she really feels about your man. You do not deserve him and she just might steal him from you, if he gave her a chance. Watch out women from hell.
“Since I'm already screwed…
Yet, I'm still hoping
That tonight, tonight, you're gonna turn down the lights
And give me a little more room just to prove it to you
What do I gotta do?”
Just push her aside
She's not your type
So clich when a boy falls under the spell
Of a woman from hell”

Turn You On, produced by Scott Storch, starts out with hot track beat. Hilton’s lyrics begin to convey the story of how she likes attention and what its like to live in her shoes.

This track, Do Ya Think I’m Sexy goes back to the late 70’s jam. Bring out the big afro’s, plaid pants and sing with me, “If you want my body and you think I am sexy. Come on sugar, let me know.”
This is the only song on the album that I want push repeat the button.

Hilton only co-wrote four songs of the eleven but the songs seem to fit her bigger than life image. Her money did allow her to pay for some good tracks but did not buy her a new voice. I give the album two stars out of five stars.

Photo Slide Show

CD release for party for B. R. U. T. H. A.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Someone told that there was free food at Atlanta's Jock & Jills for a release party; I was more excited about the food. After the event ended at Megafest, I headed over to the restaurant after leaving Megafest. The road manager handed me a cd. I was not impressed with album and just thought they may be another Christian rap group. Then I heard the music from the speakers.

I asked my friend, is this the group?

He said, yes!

I was like; I am going to stay now.

After eating the wonderful cheesy-chicken-quesadillas, I left to see the performance
.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Their gospel songs have an R&B flavor of their own. They even performed the oldie song Oh Happy Day with a twist.

Close is an upbeat song that will get you on your feet, while singi
ng the words: time and time again, you kept me. I will stay close to you Lord.

Atlanta V103’s Greg Street hosts the CD. Heaven, Love, and Hey are great songs.

The song Hey, lyrics are It’s going to be ok... To blessed to be stressed, I ain't got time for any mess. After the singing this song you will not b
e stressed.

The group B. R. U. T. H. A. performs live for the audience from their Rise Up CD Release party on July 23, 2006. Pierre and Erin are very talented and groomed performers. The crowd reacted very positive to their performance. They performed as if it was their Time (track 7) and it was their shot. I give this CD a 4 out of 5 stars.

For more booking, visit www.brutha.org. In addition, you can request for a free full length CD..

Got God?

Toni Braxton's Cold Concert

Toni Braxton dancers wore dressed in white mini dresses as she wore a yellow- fringed mini dress. Braxton belted out Let me Count the Ways, which her voice sounded better than her performance in Dallas at Nokia Theatre. The fast paced show left little time for wardrobe changes, as her fans are use to from her tour. Braxton’s concert is very fun to watch because she picks men out of the audience to serenade. One gorgeous stern face guy surprisingly begin to thank God as she sat in his lap. During her performance of Unbreak my Heart, Braxton’s voice was very low due to the cold she had been fighting for the past couple of days.

In her concert tour, Spanish Guitar song begins with two women salsa mixed with hip hop and breaken dance as the intro plays in the background. This song alone choreographed beautifully was extraordinary to watch.

Who you Calling a Ho? Sisters Take Back Our Sex!

Take Back the Music: Jill Scott made a major point that there are more women buts seen on music videos than at the gym. She uses song and poetry to get across to the crowd of the positive entertainment is out there but needs support.

Shemar Moore

Common

YoYo
Author of Diary of a Video Vixen,
Karrine Steffans, Michaela angela Davis (scheduled to appear but absent), and Toni Blackman(scheduled to appear but absent).

Jennifer Holiday wooed by Shemar Moore

During a nice interlude,
Jennifer Holiday sang her infamous song I (New Orleans) am not going any where, with a few changes to the song to indicate that New Orleans was here to stay. The crowd had water in their eyes, as the words belted, you're going to love me. Afterwards, Susan L. Taylor requested Holiday to give us one more chorus. Then surprisingly, Shemar Moore gets on his knees and begs Holiday to sing the song one more time. Of course, who would not give in to Moore’s request? Holiday granted his request and sung the lyrics one more time for the crowd.

Sharpton says We are Still In the Day

Reverend Al Sharpton reminds African Americans, we are still
in the day but we need to stand like our ancestors like back in the day.
Sharpton said our parents gave us more than what they had.
This would be the first generation to give their children less than what they had.

Sharpton tell of a story of a woman telling him
good luck in the struggle.
Then he says,
who made you free and I remain in the struggle.
Just like the redwood trees, Sharpton reminds them that African Americans roots run deep.

Rev Jackson speaks Out

Reverend Jesse Jackson pointed out that the entire media outlet reflected
All Day, All Night, All White
eventho America has many races. Jackson pointed out that we should deal with lion (markets) instead of each other.

Jamie Foxx at Essence

Jamie Foxx performed 5 minutes after his scheduled time but the crowd did not care as they stood to their feet. He sung the concert version of “DJ Play this Song”. Also, Foxx sang songs from the movie Ray Charles.

Magic talks Business Magic

Earvin “Magic” Johnson gave out key points on how to build wealth. Johnson stated facts there are more millionaires but less business owners. He gives clues to his successful business is to hire 9 and 10 people. They should have same mindset as the owner.

Johnson stated with Starbucks menu was changed to accommodate his customers. i.e. scones changed to pound cake and soke it to me cake.
In addition,he said money should be spent our community but if we are not business owners, then other business owners will spend money elsewhere.

Ray Nagin Mayor of New Orleans speaks at Essence Festival

Ray Nagin Mayor of New Orleans said that if you remember anything from his speech, “buy some land in New Orleans”. Right now, you can buy land at half the appraised amount and then in turn get your own appraiser. He pointed out
1. Stick together
2. Economic development- Be your own boss
3. Home ownership, not car ownership
4. Black men need to get stronger as leaders, fathers, and husbands. Strong reentry programs (for prisoners)
5. Politics with Economic as with money is fools gold.

Bobby Brown & New Edition

New Edition and Bobby Brown Reunion performed in their all white suites and shoes with their smooth dance moves. Johnny Gill song Red Dress then Bobby Brown lead My Prerogative as the crowd waived their hands in the air. Gill came back to sing, Can you stand the Rain as everyone felt the beat of the drum pounding on their chest. Gill begin to assure the crowd that after being in the music business of the twenty-three years that the group has been lied and that
no weapon formed against them shall prosper.
With a cheerful end they belted out with
That Girl is Poison.

Bobby Brown came on stage and performed by himself. During his performance, he took off his shirt and belt. The audience begins get suspicious of what was come next. Brown stated that if Whitney were there he would be
tearing her ass up backstage.
As young innocence girls being to tell Brown that they loved him, he chanted,
I love you too but I love Whitney more.
At the end of his performance, the back up singers belted out the chorus to My Prerogative as the curtain came down. Then out of nowhere Brown came from behind through the curtains, came out singing the words of “My Prerogative” and the crowd went crazy. At the end of song when Brown, with only his pants and shoes on, he tried to say my prerogative but his mike was turned off, then he began to just throw his towel in the air as the crowd sung the words to his song. That was the most memorable part of the evening because as for as Brown was concerned he wanted to end the show when he wanted to!

Jahiem in Concert

At 7:15 pm Jahiem came out on stage with a straight-blow-out-combed back hairstyle in gray suit with lilac & yellow tie & lilac matching belt. His performance of “Put Your Woman First” was great but sources revealed that the hairstyle just looked more pimped than thugged out. As a tribute to Luther Vandross death on July 1, 2005, Jahiem belted out “A House is not a Home.” His voice had so much volume that he brought his mike down to his waist so it would not overpower the crowd-filled stadium. Jaheim surprised the audience by singing a very old gospel song “Trouble in My Way, I gotta cry sometime”.

Onion Ring of Taste

On Friday, while in Houston I had a Burger King value meal. In my bag of fries was an onion ring. After tasting the onion ring, it made me begin to hunt for a better tasting onion ring. That is when I begin to crave an "ONION RING",in which I had eaten before. When I got back to Dallas the next day, I stopped by Whataburger and ordered a large size of onion rings. Since, I am watching what I eat, that was the only thing I ordered. The made-to-order-onion rings tasted okay but they did not fulfill my taste buds. After, I drove closer to home, to my spot the where I first fell in love with the "ONION RING". It was the fast food chain, Sonic. Five minutes later, I received my order of large size onion rings. I begin to taste the hot steamy onion rings covered with a sweet batter, which fulfilled my taste buds. I only took small bites to savor the wonderful taste.
In summary, my hunt for the Best ONION RING, it is always best to go with your first hunch.

Love Triangle Revealed

Here are the latest details of the love triangle revealed. From 1999 to 2002, Charlie Sheen and Heather Locklear were coworkers in the TV series “Spin City”.
Around March 23, 2006,
Heather Locklear at that time, said to divorce Richie Sambora because he was accepting inappropriate photos of Lockler’s unnamed female friend.
Now, we all know that
Dennis Richards filed for divorce in March 2005 from Charlie Sheen but the detail were all suppose to be kept secret.
Now in April 2006, Extra TV reports a videotape of
Denise Richards making out Richie Sambora on his balcony.
Humm. I wonder who is backstabbing whom. Let me guess
Richards is backstabbing Locklear. Wait hold up… Did Locklear and Sheen have an affair? In addition, maybe this is payback from Richards. Was Richards the unnamed female friend that Locklear mentioned? After seeing the footage, she had the hots for Sambora that did not seem to be overnight. Will Richards career suffer from her latest behavior?
Lesson to Learn: Girls, do not let your hormones break up a friendship and make you look like the bad girl. It’s not worth it. These situations happen every day but it looks bad when you are in the public eye.

Feel free to post your thoughts below.

Release "Born King" on 4/18

Title: Born King
Artist: Rob Hodge
Record Label: Beatmart Recordings/Sony/BMG Records

Rob Hodge, is a local known artist and actor from Philadelphia, is about release his solo debut Christian-Hip Hop/Rap album on April 18,2006. Hodge started as an emcee and producer around 10 years ago. As a producer, he has worked along the sides of The Fugees, Wycleaf Jean, The Roots and many more to name.

According to Hodge’s myspace website, he believes that the album Born King is a movement of Holy hip-hop what Kirk Franklin did for Gospel music.

After listening to his songs, I was a believer too. This album is hot in every way. The lyric are tight along with the beats.

Higher is an attention getting title with attention getting words. It challenges the listener that there is a high that can last more than just 2 hours. The rap introduces a new ‘High’ that he calls Christ music. This song should be the new anthem for “Say No to Drugs!”

Determination tells the stories of different people facing tragedy but continuing life’s race with slow hip-hop beat. It ends with a gust of inspirational words and the sound of guitar strings leading you into the light.

Look at me Now is head swaying beat that talks about how the artist has lost friends thru death or prison over the years, but wants everyone to look at him now. Hodge proclaims of his life transformation from his past. The chorus reminds you of the song “Lean Back”.

The club beat
I’m Rich tells you of the Bible’s true meaning of rich, not the typical material rich. You may want to hate him after listening but do not hate him because he is ‘Rich!’ This is my favorite song and will be everyone else’s favorite song as well.

I give the album four out of five stars.

Don't Date Him Girl.com

I saw this news package regarding the Don't Date Him Girl website. I checked it out for a long time, because I begin to read the stories behind the pictures. Some stories were sad.

I begin to get upset with some of the women because the women admitted to taking these guys back like two and three times after catching them cheating . I hope the stories will keep other women from making the same mistakes.

I say, spread the word to all your girl friends, boyfriends and even your enemies. You know why, if you tell the guy you are seeing that you will post him on this website if he cheats. Maybe he will leave the relationship in tactful way or just want cheat. Your enemies, sometimes those females are enemies because they may have believed a lie some mutual male-acquaintance told them. In addition, you know what, you may be dating the same guy and do not even know about it.

Girls lets stand together and check this website out. Please add some cheaters too!

"Faithful" by Houstonian Rebecca Eaglin

Title: FAITHFUL
Artist: REBECCA EAGLIN
Record Label: DIVISION OF HIGH RECORDS (BMI)

This 22-year-old-Houstonian, Rebecca Eaglin has a similar voice like Deborah Cox. Eaglin’s CD is categorized in the contemporary gospel style. Eaglin, at a very young age, wrote or co wrote all of her songs on her re-released debut album & re-titled to “Faithful”. This very talented singer/songwriter is now attending University of Houston where she will obtain a bachelor's degree in business administration.

Eaglin accomplishment included being a featured artist on 2000 & 2001 GMWA Women of Worship CD by the Aleho International Music label. Other great artists from the CD’s include such as: Rev. Yvette Flunder, Kathy Taylor-Brown, Adrianne Lewis, Denise Tichenor, and Lucinda Moore.

The best song of the 13-track album is “Praise His Name”, a Jamaican-beat praise song. This song will get anyone moving; no one will want to sit down during this song. Most of all, do not forget to ‘praise his name’ everyday.

The Biggest Part” is a love song ballad to Jesus. This is a great song to listen to, when you need to remind Jesus how much he means to you. Eaglin lyric calls mentions that with her daily life activities pulling her attention, she tends to forgets about the ‘biggest part” of one’s life.

He’s Always There” has a dancing beat that makes you want to stay as 'He’s always there.'

Worthy” is a worship song with symphony musical introduction. When listening to this song, you will begin to raise your hand and sing Jesus’ worthiness.

This “In God’s Hands” shows off Eaglin’s singing ability. During this song, the piano and percussion accompany her. This song reminds one of that big-band-style. The lyric accomplishes to assure you that your life, trust, and hope are always in his (God’s) hands.

Stray is a great song that recalls how Eaglin ‘strayed’ away from God, even though she realizes they have should just stayed on the right path of righteousness. She convincingly reminds you, not to stray and stay focused on “the race”.

Dancin’ Shouting” starts out on one beat but changes beat in the beginning of the song. This makes the listener feel that the drummer skipped a beat. At the end of the song, the beat changes again but the beat does not meet the expectation of a dance beat, as the title expresses.

Faithful” CD has some good songs and some not so great.
I give her a 3 out of 5 stars. * * * * *

"Keep it Gangsta" Flop

Title:
“KEEP IT GANSTA”

Artist: Compilation of several artists.
Record Label: GROOVESOUND RECORDS

  • Lingo, founder of Groovesound Record, is from Dallas, Texas.
  • Heata is a 24-year-old that resides in Dallas, Texas. He has performed at Youth for the Nations at CFNI, G.L.A.D. Youth Convention, Youth Fest, The Great X Change and numerous more.
  • Nate-G grew up in San Jose, California but later moved to Texas, where he now resides.
  • The 24-year-old, LED grew up in Brownsville, Texas and now resides in Dallas, Texas. According to Groovesound.com, LED is a featured artist on the upcoming D.O.G. Squad album on a song titled “Blame Us”.
  • Phildawg is an 18-year-old Texan that resides in Duncanville.
  • G-Boyz consists of Da Gboy and Young Fatal, there was not a hometown listed.
  • There was no information found on the artist Pooh and ORC.

Keep it Gangsta” is a compilation of various Texas rappers which rap beats are of the early 90’s. Some of the Christian raps’ on the CD are wolves wearing sheep’s skin with only one line of Christianity. The other raps’ lack memorable beats and/ or lyrics.

Mama Don’t Cry”, written by Brother IG, is my favorite track of the CD. It talks about the artist ventures of the bad sad to accept Christ into his life. Nice chorus and beat with a sad undertone but good outcome.

Thugged Out” by Lingo & Nate-G was the worst rap on the album. The lyrics and beats were rollin’ too slow. I thought I was in the early 90’s.

Wild, Wild, West” by ORC did not have any beat or chorus that that was memorable.

Bump That” by Nate-G beginning beats, reminds me of the rapper Ice Cube’s 1994 “Bootleg & B-Side” CD.

A 12-year-old girlish like voice fills the G-Boyz rap or it sounded like a girl. This disappointing secular “Down South” rap is on a gospel rap album, and made to believe as a Christian rap.

Lingo raps “I need somebody to show me love…All I know is the drugs and the street.” Once again, “Look Into my Eyes” is a secular song portrayed as a Christian rap that only has one line of Christianity in the entire song.

Rappers Heata, LED, Lingo, Nate-G, Phildawg & Pooh spit out lyrics that were meaty in its contents. “You Scared beats came somewhat shy of being able to get the listeners to stay tuned in.

Slow beats and semi-memorable lyrics filled this compilation CD. This CD is the best fit for someone who is stuck in the early 90’s. I suggest anyone to listen to the songs on iTunes (if available) before buying any CD.
I give this CD a one star out of five stars. * * * * *

InStyle Magazine

Hey, my InStyle March 2006 magazine arrived this week. Have you seen it, yet? Well, it is going to take me a while to read and flip through. I have scanned through it.

InStyle looked at last-years Oscar gown winners (pg. 513). In addition, the magazine highlights jewelry of the night (pg. 500). These pieces of jewelry are small but not small in price. My favorite piece is a 65-carat mesh-bracelet worn by Beyonce Knowles, which is a designed by Lorraine Schwartz.

I enjoyed looking at the gowns worn at the Golden Globes (pg. 181-190). In which none of them are in my budget at this time. However, it will be after I get out of debt. My “Yeah, don’t hate. I look good” pick from their list is the white-strapless Valentino gown wrapped by a big silver-trimmed belt worn by Kiera Knightley. My “Should Have Stayed Home” pick is a Givenchy Couture purple-strapless-tulle gown combined with a leather purple belt that gradually builds as it gets longer.

Well, there will be more to come when I get more wrapped into my magazine.

MC Hammer New Video

I forgot to tell you that MC Hammer has gotten a new video. It is cool to watch. Look for him in the middle. You do not get to him dance the entire video, because he is in the crowd, strategically placed. Please feel free to watch. Sorry there are no half-naked women, they are tightly-fully clothed. lol.

I wish him much success.

Katrina Victims Moving In

Today on Oprah, Katrina Victims moved in to their Habitat for Humanity House. Angel Lane is located in Houston, Texas. Right now, 50 homeowners moved in and 15 more will move in by the summer. Designer Nate Burkess filled the 3-bedrom-homes with warmth, furniture, necessities and love.
The homes’ decorations were beautiful and elegant! They came with beautiful large front yards with a porch that invited a since of community in the neighborhood.
My only thought was, how did one family get chosen over the other? What happens to the Katrina Victims that are living in Dallas and Atlanta? Will they get a home in Houston?

Oprah & Katrina Victims

I watched Oprah today regarding the life of the Katrina Victims. I did not want to watch it because I knew it would be an emotional piece and it was. I lived but will the victims live? I surely hope so!

I will keep them in my prayers for their strength and hope in the future.
I will pray for the leadership in our country that is forgetting that lives are being affected by their slowness.
